Description

Manor Cottage and the attached barn to the west date from the 17th century. The building features irregular rubble walls with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped by a Cotswold stone roof. There are two chimneys made of ashlar with moulded capping, and another chimney that was repaired in the 20th century. The house is divided into two parts. The eastern part has a chimney gable facing the road, with a small window on the first floor to the left that has a drip, and below it is a small segment-headed light. The east gable return is two and a half storeys high and has a range of two and three-light mullion windows with drips, along with a doorway to the left that features a step-chamfered timber lintel and a plain door. The left-hand, western part is one and a half storeys tall, with two Cotswold gables facing the road and three and four-light mullion windows. At the rear of this part, there is a three-light ovolo mullion window. The four-bay barn extends to the left at a slightly lower height, featuring a gabled dormer to the left of centre and large double doors to the right of centre. This building is important to the village grouping, particularly as its location on the perimeter of the motte may suggest much earlier occupation of the site.
