Description
Linden Cottage is a former detached house, now connected to The Lindens, dating from the 17th century. The building features square-panelled timber-framing with painted brick infill and brick that is painted to resemble timber-framing. The gable ends are constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with an artificial stone slate roof. The main body has a rectangular plan, while a 20th-century pebble-dashed extension to the right is not of special interest.
The cottage is two storeys high with an attic, and the wall above the first-floor windows, which is painted to imitate timber-framing, indicates a later heightening of the structure. There are two 20th-century slate-hung roof dormers with 2-light casements featuring glazing bars. The facade has four windows, with paired 6-pane sashes on the ground floor and a mix of four, six, and eight-pane wood casements on the first floor. The upper left window has three-light casements with leaded panes.
The central entrance features a 20th-century plank door with a single-pane spy light, sheltered by an open-sided wrought-iron porch with a curving leaded canopy. There is also a 20th-century two-light casement with glazing bars and a concrete lintel in the left gable end. Carpenter's marks in the form of Roman numerals can be seen on the timber-framing. The roof is hipped at the left gable end, and there is a stack at the right gable end with moulded capping. The interior has not been inspected.
