Description
A terrace of four houses built around 1840 in Cheltenham. The houses are constructed of stucco over an ashlar base and brick core, with brick party-wall stacks, and have a double-depth plan with service ranges to the rear; the range to the right returns to Bethesda Street.
The exterior has three storeys and seven first-floor windows, arranged as 2:2:2:1, with a three-window return to the right. Architectural detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor, bands to the first and second floors, a crowning frieze, a low parapet, and copings. The end houses have taller parapets. Most windows are 6/6 sash windows, taller to the first floor, set in plain reveals with sills. The entrances, found on the left, right, and left again, are 4-panel doors, some with glazing, and have overlights. Matching details continue to the right return, which has 6/6 sash windows throughout. The interior was not inspected.
The terrace forms part of a notable street of mainly 1830s and 1840s terrace houses and is associated with Bethesda Chapel.
