Description

Numbers 17A, 18, and 19 are a terrace of three villas with attached area railings, built around 1824 to 1828, likely designed by John Forbes. The buildings are constructed of stucco over brick and feature a mansard slate roof on the left and center sections, with party-wall stacks that are concealed and stuccoed. The iron railings are a notable feature.

The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement and has six first-floor windows. The first, fourth, and fifth window bays project forward. Architectural details include a first-floor sill band, a crowning frieze and cornice, and a low, coped parapet. The windows are primarily 6/6 and 1/1 horned sashes, with the original ones set in plain reveals. The ground floor windows are taller, and the fifth window is set in a wider and taller segmental-arched recess. There are entrances in the first and fourth bays, as well as on the right, featuring 6-panel doors with overlights.

The interior has not been inspected. The area railings have an arrowhead design. Historically, the street was originally known as Montpellier Retreat, and John Forbes served as the architect and surveyor for the Pittville Estate around 1824 to 1825.
