Gate Piers Boundary Pier And Walls To Montpellier House (Both Parts)

The gate piers, boundary pier, and walls to Montpellier House were built around 1832. There are a pair of gate piers at the east and three piers at the center of the carriage sweep, along with a boundary pier to the west and low walls adjoining. The piers are made of ashlar over brick and are similar in design, while the brick walls have ashlar coping. The square piers are approximately 2 meters high and feature recessed panels with cornices and shaped caps. The low walls, which have been topped with renewed railings (not included in the listing), extend to the right for about 30 meters to a similar pier, then continue for another 30 meters before returning to Suffolk Road for approximately 50 meters. This structure is a significant feature of the streetscape and is part of a distinguished group of buildings in Suffolk Square.
