Description

Denham Lodge and Crenden are a pair of semi-detached villas, now converted into flats, dating from approximately 1820 to 1850. The construction is stucco over brick, with an artificial slate mansard roof. There are brick stacks with iron detailing and attached iron railings and a balcony. The buildings have a double-depth plan and incorporate outer side hallways.

The architecture is two storeys with an attic and basement, featuring six first-floor windows and single-storey entrance ranges to each side, with a recessed lower storey above. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor, which is drawn into voussoirs over the windows; a first-floor band; tooled architraves to the first-floor windows; a crowning frieze, dentil cornice and blocking course with copings. The ground floor has tall 4/4 sash windows, those to the right having blind boxes. First-floor windows are 1/1 sashes, with two blind openings (the second and fifth). The basement has 10/10 sash windows. Attic dormers are concealed behind the parapet. The entrances feature flights of roll-edged steps leading to 4-panel, part-glazed double doors. The left return has tooled architraves to the windows. To the rear are 6/6, 8/8 and tripartite 4/4 sashes between 2/2 sashes. The interior was not inspected during listing.

The ground floor to the left (Denham) has a continuous acanthus-scroll balcony. The railings to the sides of the steps to the left are embellished with decorative rods; the railings to the side of the basement to the right have a scrolled panel, with similar basement railings to the rear. The porches have lattice-work uprights and tent roofs.
