Description
This is a lamp post located approximately 70 meters east of the railway bridge on Lansdown Road in Cheltenham, dating from around 1901. It was likely moved from the Promenade, where it was originally designed as a 'Tall Twin' to rise above the trees. The lamp post is probably the work of the Borough Engineer, Joseph Hall, and was cast by Messrs Hardy and Padmore of Worcester at a cost of £12.17.6. It is made of cast iron and features a square plinth with armorial bollards, a shaped base decorated with gadrooning, a band of anthemion motifs, and an amulet with pigeons in relief. This lamp post is designed for electricity and forms a pair with another lamp post located to the east of the Shelburne Road junction on the north side of Lansdown Road.
