Description

The boundary wall, gate piers, and overthrow located to the north and east of the Church of St Mark date from the 1860s and are likely part of a design by John Middleton. The boundary wall features battered retaining walls made of rough-faced rubble, with wall buttresses and angled capping. The weathered gate piers have cross-gabled capping and are aligned with the south porch, which includes a cast and wrought iron lamp overthrow. Similar gate piers can be found at the south end of the east wall. This structure is an important feature of the streetscape and is integral to the setting of St Mark's Church.
