Description
Lansdown Lodge and East Lodge are a villa, dating from approximately 1830 to 1850. Originally part of the Lansdowne Estate, a significant example of suburban planning, the building is stucco over brick, with concealed roof, left-end and ridge stucco stacks with cornices, and a rear brick stack, incorporating an iron verandah.
The garden front is two storeys with five first-floor windows, the three central windows projecting forward to create a single-tall-storey, single bay to the left and an entrance porch to the right return. Stucco detailing includes a plinth, a first-floor band that interrupts end Doric pilasters to the main range and the projection, with two Ionic pilasters either side of the central window, topped by an architrave, frieze, and cornice. Alternate first-floor windows have a frieze and cornice on corbels; sills are present throughout. The range to the left has a plinth and a wide segmental arch on pilasters. The windows are 6/6 sashes, the first-floor windows with blind boxes. The entrance to the right return features an open, domed porch with a ball finial, Doric pilasters, and round arches on each side, containing a panelled door. The rear of the building has a tall 4/4 staircase sash with margin-lights and radial glazing to the head. The interior has not been inspected. A verandah on the ground floor of the main range has embellished uprights.
