Description

Osborne House is a villa dating from approximately the 1830s to the 1850s, built with stucco over brickwork and featuring a concealed roof. It occupies an L-shaped plan. The exterior is two storeys with an attic and basement, presenting four first-floor windows, two of which are part of a bow projecting from the front. Stucco detailing includes full-height pilasters at the end of the bow. The windows are mostly 6/6 sash windows, with the bow windows having curved sections. The attic has casement windows. The entrance is positioned at the angle where the bow meets the main facade, accessed by a flight of steps leading to a four-panel door, partially glazed, within a porch supported by fluted columns with ornate caps; this porch is now glazed. The left return side features 6/6 sash windows and two tripartite windows, with a 6/6 sash between two 2/2 sashes, extending the full height of the bow. The right return, facing the garden, has a tripartite window with a 6/6 sash between two 2/2 sashes on the ground floor; to the left are French windows and a glazed verandah with French windows featuring margin-lights. The first floor of the garden facade has three 6/6 sash windows, one of which has margin-lights. A further range is set back to the right. The interior is reported to retain original features, including embellished plasterwork and joinery, as well as marble and inlaid wood fireplaces. Some panelling with inlay still exists in the front drawing room. A narrow, open-well staircase retains stick balusters on the first floor, although a full inspection of the interior has not been carried out. The house occupies a prominent corner site.
