Description
This is a lamp post located approximately 70 meters east of the railway bridge on Lansdown Road in Cheltenham. It dates from around 1901 and was likely moved from the Promenade, where it was originally designed as part of a pair known as 'Tall Twins' to rise above the trees. The lamp post was probably designed by the Borough Engineer Joseph Hall and cast by Messrs Hardy and Padmore of Worcester, costing £12.17.6d each. It is made of cast iron and features a square plinth with armorial bollards, a shaped base decorated with gadrooning, a band of anthemion motifs, and an amulet with pigeons in relief. The base of the shaft is fluted and adorned with twisted acanthus. This lamp post is designed for electricity and forms a pair with the lamp post on the south side of Lansdown Road, east of the Shelburne Road Junction.
