Description

The Duck and Pheasant Public House, originally known as Ingram House, is located on North Place in Cheltenham. This building dates from around 1790 to 1820 and features ashlar stonework over a brick structure, topped with a slate roof and a renewed brick stack at the left end. The property includes adjoining walls, railings, and gates.

The main building is two storeys high with attics in the gables and a basement on the right side. It has three first-floor windows, a two-storey section with one first-floor window, and a single-storey bay to the right. A continuous band runs along the first floor. Most windows are 6/6 sash types with sills, except for the ground floor, where the main range has outer French windows with six panes, divided overlights, and margin-lights. All openings are set in plain reveals. The central entrance features a 20th-century glazed door with a fanlight that has circle and batwing-type glazing bars. The right range also has a central entrance with a 20th-century door and fanlight. The building is topped with a cornice and blocking course, and the gable ends are coped.

Inside, the public house retains a Cotswold stone fireplace on the left, although the rest of the interior has not been inspected. The porch of the main range is decorated with uprights and a frieze featuring quatrefoils and an ornate scroll motif. To the right, a coped wall extends approximately 6 meters, attached to restored and renewed forecourt railings and gates, which have alternating stick and twist-head designs with urn finials stamped 'MARSHALL'.
