Description
The west entrance to Thirlestaine Hall, built around 1855-1857, features a pair of drive piers with 20th-century gates, quadrant walls leading to another pair of piers, and boundary walls with a corner pier on the left. The structure is generally L-shaped and constructed from coursed stone with vermiculated ashlar piers that have chamfered plinths, a frieze, a shaped cornice, and caps. The low quadrant walls are similar to the piers. To the left, there is a coped wall approximately 2 meters high and 12 meters long, which ramps up to a similar corner pier. This wall continues along the left boundary for about 30 meters. The entrance is a significant feature of the streetscape and contributes to the setting of Thirlestaine Hall, as well as grouping with the main entrance and other boundary walls and piers associated with the hall.
