Description

Belleview House, now flats, was built around 1800-1820, as evidenced by its appearance on the 1820 Post Office Map, with later additions to the right and rear. It is a double-depth plan house, originally with three storeys over a basement, and includes a two-storey, two-window wing to the south. The exterior is stucco over brick, with a concealed roof and iron railings. Architectural details include first and second-floor bands, a crowning frieze, cornices, and a low parapet. Most windows are 6/6 sashes, taller on the first floor, set in plain reveals with sills. The entrance, located to the right of the main block, features a flight of roll-edged steps leading to a six-panel door with a fanlight. Chimneys are visible on the left side and on the extension. A later range to the right has a mix of 1/1 and 6/6 sash windows. The rear of the house also has 6/6 sash windows. The interior hall features an acanthus frieze and a ceiling frieze. The dogleg staircase has stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. Ground-floor rooms have interconnecting panelled doors with cambered-arched, fluted architraves and floral detailing to the angles. The attached railings feature urns to the stanchions, with a lancet design around the area and to the sides of the steps. A first-floor continuous balcony is ornamented with concentric circles. The railings have group value.
