Description

This is an outbuilding located approximately 2 meters west of Dotheridge Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. Originally a one-unit dwelling, it was extended and remodeled in the early 19th century to serve as a brewhouse, bothy, and stable. The structure is built of coursed slatestone rubble with cob on the right gable end and beneath the eaves, topped with a gabled slate roof that has corrugated asbestos at the rear. A 19th-century brick ridge stack is present.

The building is two storeys high and features a two-window range. There are timber lintels over three 20th-century plank doors, with a 17th-century label mould above the central doorway, which was created by inserting a door into a former 17th-century window. To the left, there is a loft window with a timber lintel and a 19th-century two-light casement window with glazing bars. A pointed-arched blind window is located in the left gable wall.

Inside, the central room has a chamfered ogee-stopped bressummer over an open fireplace and a chamfered beam. The early 19th-century A-frame trusses have pegged collars. Dotheridge Farmhouse and this outbuilding are prominent features in the landscape of Yeo Vale. It is suggested that the original 17th-century dwelling may have been the farmhouse before the current one was constructed in the 1740s.
