Description
This outbuilding, located approximately 7 meters west of Horwood Barton, is a former bothy, brewhouse, and stable dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from coursed slatestone rubble with rendered cob on the front and rear walls, topped with a hipped slate roof and featuring a brick stack at the right end. The building has two storeys and a five-window range. To the right, there is a 20th-century plank door with timber lintels above it, while to the left, a 19th-century plank door with strap hinges is present. The left side also features a shuttered window with timber lintels above it, and two-light windows set in deeply-recessed openings. A mid-19th-century shippon has been added to the rear. Inside, the room that was once the brewhouse on the right has a cobbled floor, a stop-chamfered beam, and a chamfered bressummer over a large open fireplace. The large room on the left, which was the former stable, contains a chamfered beam and plain beams. The first floor has a stop-chamfered bressummer over an open fireplace to the right and a 19th-century A-frame roof. This building is included for its group value.
