Description
These are gate piers dating to 1896, constructed by James Berriman. The piers are square and chamfered, with a plinth and a moulded cornice topped with flat caps. Each pier is surmounted by a lion and a sheep in a recumbent position. Plaques on the front of each pier read "on how peaceful art thou 'O' Highford J. B. 1896". The piers are flanked by contemporary walls constructed of banded rubble with brick dressings. A contemporary iron gate with simple cresting completes the gateway. The design is part of a larger planned farm complex from the 1880s and 1890s belonging to James Berriman, notable for its decorative design and planned layout.
