Description

The Follies is a cottage dating from the early 18th century, located on Barnstaple Street in Winkleigh. It features plastered cob walls and a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. There is a brick lateral stack at the rear. The cottage has a two-room plan, with the right-hand room heated by a fireplace in the rear wall. The exterior is two storeys high and has a regular front with two windows, which are 20th-century three-light casements. A central 20th-century plank door is located beneath a thatch hood supported by wooden posts. Notably, the left-hand end wall of the house is curved. The interior was inaccessible during the survey.
