Description

ALWINGTON SS42NW 2/40 Cockington Farmhouse GV. II

Farmhouse. Mid/late C18 with late C19 alterations. Colourwashed render over coursed slatestone rubble with some cob; gabled late C19 slate roof with bracketed eaves; rendered brick end and ridge stacks with bread oven projection to left. 2-unit plan with central staircase and additional service wing to left. 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. Carved brackets support flat hood over late C19 six-panelled (2 glazed) door set in beaded architrave. Flat rendered arches over late C19 six-pane horned plate-glass sashes. Stair turret and C19 outshut to rear. One-unit service range to left has two late C19 two-light casements with glazing bars and late C19 one-storey extension projecting from front wall. Interior staircase, dado panelling and fireplaces; service wing to left noted as having chamfered beams.
