Description
Netherdowns Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with additional bays added and the front reworked around 1830. The building features colourwashed render over cob and stone, a gabled slate roof, and brick stacks at the left end and ridge. Originally designed as a two-unit plan, it was extended to a five-unit plan in the 19th century. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window front.
To the left, there is a three-window range with a 19th-century six-panelled door, two of which are glazed, and flat rendered arches over late 19th-century horned plate-glass sash windows flanking the door and on the first floor to the left. On the right, there is a late 19th-century two-light casement window on the first floor and two bays with 19th-century three-light casement windows. At the rear, there is a 19th-century slatestone outshut, which includes a former dairy in the right room of the outshut, featuring two 19th-century shuttered windows.
Inside, the main range to the left has a mid-19th-century staircase in the centre and ogee-stopped chamfered beams in the room on the right. Above, there are 17th-century A-frame trusses, and there is a service staircase located at the rear right.
