Description
Salterns Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, located in Weare Giffard, Halspeill. The building has undergone 20th-century alterations. The walls are colourwashed render over cob and stone, with a gabled tile roof added in the 20th century. A brick chimney stack is on the left end of the building, and a rear lateral stack is constructed of stone finished in rendered brick. The interior is arranged with a 3-unit plan, incorporating a through-passage to the left. The farmhouse is two storeys in height, with a four-window front. Flat, rendered arches are above a 20th-century half-glazed door and 20th-century windows. A blocked doorway is visible to the right. A label mould sits over a 17th-century four-light window with chamfered stone mullions, located in the central hall. There is a rear outshut staircase to the left. Inside, an ovolo-moulded beam is in the room to the right, and later 19th-century winder stairs are at the rear. The through-passage features a 17th-century plank door to the right, which has been boarded over, and a 17th-century plank door to the rear, featuring original latch and fittings.
