Description
Monk's Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It features colourwashed render over coursed slatestone rubble and has a gabled slate roof with a rendered stack at the left end. The building has a two-unit plan with a stair projection at the rear and stands two storeys tall with a two-window range. There is a 20th-century porch on the right that includes a reset 18th-century plank door with strap hinges. To the left, there is a flat rendered arch above a late 18th-century three-light wood-mullioned casement, which has butterfly hinges, as well as similar arches over 20th-century casements.
Inside, the main room on the left has 18th-century plank doors with strap hinges leading to the right and to the stairs. It features a plain heavy beam and plain joists, along with a reset late 16th-century carved stone head above the open fireplace. There is a 17th-century chamfered wood doorway leading to the winder stairs, which has a stair light. The interior has only been partially inspected.
