Description

Tythes Ford is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with extensions and alterations made around 1800. The original left-hand section is built of colourwashed coursed limestone rubble, while the right-hand section was refronted in brick, using both Flemish and English bond patterns. It has a gabled roof covered in Welsh slate, with rendered stone end stacks and a rendered stone lateral stack in the centre of the front wall. Originally a two-unit plan with a central cross-passage, the farmhouse was extended to the right around 1800 to create a three-unit plan. The two-storey, five-window facade features a 20th-century half-glazed door set under a flat brick arch within an early 19th-century moulded wooden architrave. Early 19th-century horizontal sliding sash windows are set in moulded wooden architraves on the first floor, with flat brick arches above. To the right are similar windows with a timber lintel and segmental brick arches. Inside, the central hall retains 17th-century ogee-stopped chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
