Description
The Ashreigney War Memorial is located in The Square, near the Church of St James, which is listed at Grade II*, and the Grade II-listed Blacksmith’s Cottage. This memorial is approximately 3 meters tall and features a wheel-head cross made of Cornish granite. The cross is set on a square plinth that rests on a low step. A reversed sword is carved in low relief on the front of the cross. Surrounding the memorial are eight low granite posts that once supported a spiked chain.
On the front face of the plinth, the inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN EVER BLESSED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918" followed by eight names.
