Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Rose Cottages are a pair of cottages dating to the 18th century, with a 20th-century addition and modernization. They are constructed of rendered and plastered cob and rubble walls, with a hipped thatched roof and a central brick axial stack. The cottages follow a pair of mirror-image two-room plans; the larger inner room of each is heated by the central axial stack, with an unheated service room on the outside. A 20th-century lean-to was added to the left-hand end of Number 1. The exterior presents a nearly symmetrical four-window facade, with 20th-century two-light casement windows. Gabled porches, also of the early 20th century, are positioned to the left and right of centre. The porch to Number 1 features a 20th-century plank door, while the porch to Number 2 has a part-glazed door. A 20th-century lean-to extends from the left-hand end of Number 1. The interior of Number 1 exhibits no original features, these having been concealed by 20th-century modernization; Number 2 was inaccessible at the time of survey.
