Description
Hermit's Cave is a structure likely dating from the mid to late 18th century, made of red sandstone in a Gothick style. It is a neatly-quarried cave located in the sheer face of a red sandstone quarry, featuring a two-centred arched doorway and a small two-centred arched window on the left side. Inside, the cave has a slightly curved stone roof and a stone bench with a pillow carved out of the rock. Above the bench, there is a cross incised on the wall, along with the possibly punning initials I. BIDGOOD, which are carefully cut into the inner return wall.
