Description
Spring Lodge is a lodge dating to the 1860s, originally serving Oxton House. It is constructed of whitewashed and stuccoed brick and stone, with a slate roof and rendered stacks featuring moulded cornices. The building comprises two single-depth blocks set at right angles to one another. The asymmetrical front features a projecting section to the right, which has a canted bay window with a 12-pane sash in the centre and four-pane sashes on either side. A 20th-century front door is located to the left, sheltered by a hipped lead porch hood. Further to the left is a 12-pane sash window. The right return displays a 20th-century French window with margin glazing, and a gabled projection incorporates a 12-pane sash. The interior has not been inspected. It is an attractive small lodge, possessing group value with the Hermit’s Cave and exhibiting similarities to Pier Lodge.
