Description

This is a terrace of three houses located on Bridge Road, Shaldon. They were likely built in the 1820s, with alterations made to numbers 7 and 8 around 1870. The houses are constructed of painted stucco with a continuous slate roof and rendered stacks built into the party walls. Each house has a double-depth plan.

The exterior is two storeys with attics. Each house originally had a two-window front. Number 9, on the left, has 6/6-pane sash windows, a door to the left, and a modern single-storey wing. Numbers 7 and 8 share a continuous dentil eaves cornice. They have 6/6-pane sash windows on the first floor, and around 1870, 2-light casement windows were added to the ground floor, each with an overlight. The casement window to number 8 has interlacing ogee glazing bars, while those to number 7 have margin panes. The c.1870 panelled front doors are set within Gibbs-style surrounds, featuring semicircular arches and fanlights, and include applied vermiculated blocks which are probably made of Coade stone.

The interiors were not inspected during the listing process.

The terrace's design demonstrates Group Value, being an example of early 19th-century domestic architecture.
