Description

Lloyds Bank occupies two early 19th-century houses originally built as shops. The building is situated on Fore Street, Shaldon. The exterior is painted incised stucco with a slate roof and a stack at the rear left. The plan is double-depth. It is likely that the building was originally a symmetrical house with a lower-ridged wing to the left and continuous eaves. The first floor has 3/6-pane sash windows. The window to the left is positioned above a late 19th-century shop front with a cornice to the fascia. Number 20 has a 20th-century 6-panel door with a diamond-shaped pane to the overlight, a raised surround, and a cornice. To the left of the door is a 6/6-pane sash window, and to the right a fine early 19th-century bowed shop window featuring reeded pilasters and a moulded cornice to the fascia. The ground floor interior has been altered.
