Description

Winterbourne Cottage is a lodge built in the early to mid 19th century. It features painted stucco and a slate roof with moulded stacks at the gable ends, along with fretted bargeboards and a ridge on the right wing. The building is designed in a picturesque Tudor Gothic style and has an L-plan layout with a lower rear right wing.

The exterior consists of two storeys and has a symmetrical arrangement of three windows. The first-floor casement windows are adorned with label moulds and elaborate leaded glazing. There are hipped roofs over single-storey canted bays that contain two-light casement windows, which flank a large gabled porch. The porch features fretted bargeboards, a planked door, and windows on the returns.

The interior has not been inspected. Winterbourne Cottage is recognized as a notable example of the cottage ornee style, which is characteristic of the Teignmouth and Shaldon areas, particularly distinguished by its ornate glazing.
