Description

Turnpike Stone is a milestone erected around 1765 for the Dartmouth to Torquay Turnpike Trust. This small stone milestone features an elliptical arch head and has an inscription on the front that reads: 'Start of the Dartmouth to Torquay Turnpike'. It is located against the curb of a raised pavement on the south side of East Street, approximately opposite No. 117 East Street.
