Description
The Stover Park Ice House, located approximately 80 metres north-west of Higher Lodge in Newton Abbot, dates back to around 1780. This ice house is constructed from brick and is circular in plan, with the lower three quarters situated underground and the top covered by an earth mound. The brickwork is laid in header bond and features a corbelled top, which is also concealed beneath the earth. Access to the ice house is provided through an opening in the side, with no door present. Stover House, built in 1776 by James Templer, is nearby, and Higher Lodge is recognized as a building of special architectural and historic interest in the Teignbridge District.
