Description

This ice house, located approximately 230 metres southwest of Park Hill Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and was built for the St. Leger estate of Park Hill. Constructed from rubble and ashlar limestone, it features a brick vault and is covered by an earth mound. The north side has a rebated, arched door surround flanked by curved, rubble wing walls. Inside, there is a short tunnel leading to a square-headed opening that opens into a brick-arched subterranean vault. This ice house is a notable example of a building type that is rare in this region.
