Description
Manor Farmhouse is a manorial farmhouse dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with some alterations. It is constructed of rubble limestone and has a pantile roof, featuring a T-shaped plan. The building has two storeys with former attics and a west front that has five windows on the first floor.
The gabled cross-wing on the left has a chamfered plinth, large quoins, and a four-light double-chamfered mullioned window with a dripstone, along with a similar three-light window below. There is a blocked ovolo-moulded two-light attic window with a dripstone and roll-moulded gable copings. To the right of the cross-wing, there is an original-sized three-light mullioned window to the left of an inserted door, with an enlarged three-light mullioned window to its right that has a hoodmould.
On the first floor, there is a casement with glazing bars against the cross-wing, while the other windows are 20th-century mullioned windows of two, three, one, and three lights, all with hoodmoulds. The right side features ashlar gable copings with late 18th-century gadrooned finials. There are 20th-century stone ridge stacks on both the cross-wing and the main ridge.
At the rear, the cross-wing has an attic window similar to the front and a three-light first-floor opening on the left return. The left return facing the roadside has a quoined, gabled bay to the left of centre, indicating two separate builds. The mullioned windows have been enlarged with concrete surrounds, and there are traces of two original ground-floor openings, along with a blocked two-light attic window with a dripstone and roll-moulded gable copings.
Originally, this farmhouse served as the manorial home of the Cressy family until it was purchased by William West of Moorgate Hall, Rotherham in the late 16th century.
