Description
West Lodge, built in the mid-19th century for the Firbeck Hall estate, is a lodge located on Firbeck New Road. It is constructed from coursed, squared limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and is entered from the rear.
The roadside elevation consists of two bays, with the left gabled bay showcasing a three-light chamfered mullioned window, accompanied by a cornice and a similar two-light window below. The gable has ashlar kneelers and copings, designed in a style that matches Firbeck Hospital. The right bay is set back and has a matching ground-floor window with two lights.
At the angle of the plan, there is a diagonally-set stack with four shafts, each featuring a thin band. The rear of the lodge includes a part-glazed six-panel door framed in a chamfered ashlar surround, topped with a Tudor-arched lintel. Above the door, there is a blind single-light window with a cornice. The right return of the building mirrors the front but has a gable on the right side and one blind bay.
