Description
Top Lodge is a lodge built in the mid-19th century for the Wortley Hall estate. It is constructed from ashlar sandstone and features a Westmorland slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan and is a single-storey structure with three bays, with windows located in the side elevations. The central bay projects and contains a six-panel door, which is topped by a slab hood supported by shaped brackets. The flanking bays are blind. There is a decorative band and modillions beneath the un-moulded cornice and a blocking course at the top. The hipped roof has a central ridge stack that features a matching entablature. The returns of the building have 20th-century casement windows with projecting stone sills and hoods similar to the door. The lodge is included for its group value.
