Description

This building is an outbuilding located to the rear left of the stable block at Wortley Hall, which includes a garden cottage. It dates from the early 19th century and was built for the Wortley Hall estate. The structure is made of coursed, dressed sandstone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and four bays, with lean-to outshuts at the rear and right side.

On the right side is the garden cottage, which has a 20th-century part-glazed door with a plain overlight set in a raised ashlar surround. This is flanked by 16-pane sash windows that have projecting sills and lintels shaped like voussoirs, with paired 4-pane sashes above. The original doorway in the first bay includes an overlight above the door and a 16-pane sash window to the left, while the right side has a widened horizontal-sliding garage door. There are circular pitching holes above the first and second bays. The roof is hipped and features an ashlar ridge stack and a corniced end stack on the right. The first floor still shows traces of a later glazed canopy that has since been removed. This building is included for its group value with the stable block.
