Description

This building is an outbuilding located to the rear right of the stable block at Wortley Hall, which includes Swift Cottage and Garvins Cottage. It dates from the early 19th century and was constructed for the Wortley Hall estate. The structure is made of coursed, dressed sandstone with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and features four windows on the first floor, along with a three-quarter outshut to the rear and a lean-to addition on the left side.

Swift Cottage, situated on the left, has a four-panelled door with an overlight leading into the lean-to, and a sash window with glazing bars above. To the right, there are two 16-pane sash windows and three round-arched carriage entrances, which have ashlar piers and boarded doors. There is also a doorway on the far right with a 16-pane sash window next to it. A late 19th-century glazed iron canopy is positioned beneath four paired sashes and a blocked round pitching hole on the right side. The left side features an ashlar end stack, while the ridge has the base of a similar stack and a complete stack to its right.

On the right return, there is an entrance to Garvins Cottage, which is located within an infilled segmental archway leading to the outshut. The canopy connects to the adjacent stable block. This building is included for its group value with the stable block.
