Description

The icehouse, located approximately 100 meters south-south-east of Stourhead House, is likely from the early 19th century and was built for the Hoare family of Stourhead. It features a brick-lined structure beneath turf, with a restored facade made of English garden wall bond brick. The entrance has a semi-circular headed opening that leads into a barrel-vaulted short passage, which connects to a circular, double-cone shaped storage chamber that is about 7 meters deep. This icehouse is a well-preserved example and was restored by the National Trust in 1983.
