Description
This stable, located on the west corner of the north side of the stable yard in Stourton with Gasper, is a mid-18th century rebuild of an earlier structure. It is constructed from random rubble stone and features two-span lean-to roofs with a central valley behind a parapet. The building is single storey and has two windows. The central entrance consists of a tall planked door with imposts supporting a trefoil-shaped transom light, flanked by leaded oval oculi that have been inserted into blocked larger openings. Above the door, there is a bust of a woman set in a circular recess, and the parapet is tiled and coped. To the right, there is a planked stable door, and a lead rainwater spout from the valley empties into a freestanding lead tank dated 1772. The rear elevation is blind and features a tall, semi-circular-headed blocked opening. Inside, the stable retains cast iron and wooden stalls as well as loose boxes.
