Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Dodbrook Cottages are three adjoining cottages located in Haccombe-with-Combe, Combeinteignhead. They date from the 17th century or earlier, with No. 1 being a later addition or rebuild on the left end. The cottages are rendered, likely made of cob and stone rubble, featuring a projecting stack at the right end, an internal front lateral stack with a short rendered shaft, an axial stack to the left of center (which was probably originally an end stack), and a rear lateral stack for No. 1.

The plan consists of a single depth range with three front doors from the 19th or 20th century. The exact layout was unclear during the survey as the interior was not inspected, but the position of the stacks suggests that Nos. 2 and 3 may have originally formed a three-room plan 17th-century house, with No. 1 being a later addition or remodelling due to its lower roofline.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front featuring four windows. The windows are small-pane timber casements from the late 19th or 20th century. No. 1 has a front door to the right and one window on both the first and ground floors. No. 2 has a front door to the right of center, with two first-floor and one ground-floor window. No. 3 features a central front door with a gabled porch canopy, along with two ground-floor and one first-floor window. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey in 1987, but it may contain features of interest that could lead to a revision of the suggested dating. The cottages form an attractive group along the roadside.
