Description

Springside is a cottage, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, with 20th-century interior modernization and a rear left extension. The exterior is colourwashed and rendered, with an asbestos slate roof. A large projecting stack at the left end is part of the adjacent property, Claybrook. The cottage’s plan is an L shape, and the main block now comprises one large room with an entrance at the right end. The front elevation is asymmetrical and has two windows. A drip ledge runs along the first-floor level. A 20th-century front door is located to the right, and there are two 16-pane sashes from the early 19th century on the first floor, centered and to the right. A similar window is located on the ground floor in the center, and a 20th-century sash window is to the ground floor left. The interior has been modernized. An early 20th-century photograph, owned by the current owner, shows the cottage blanked off to the left of center. The cottage is situated opposite Church House and forms part of a grouping of buildings at the north-west end of the village.
