Description
The barn immediately south of Brooklands is a structure that may have served as a tithe barn, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It is built of whitewashed plastered cob and stone rubble, topped with a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched and is hipped at both ends. The barn is located next to the churchyard, northeast of the church, and runs parallel to the track leading to the lychgate in the churchyard's north wall. It has a rectangular plan featuring a threshing loft, which can be accessed from the track to the churchyard. The ground floor is accessible through a large central doorway from the garden behind Brookside.
From the east side, the barn appears impressively large, showcasing a central doorway and an open-fronted lean-to at the left end. The west elevation features a pair of large threshing doors with stone cheeks and basic slit windows that lack lintels. Inside, the loft floor is supported by massive crossbeams with rough-hewn planks. Although the roof structure has not been thoroughly inspected, it seems to have been replaced in the 20th century. This barn is notably large and is situated adjacent to the church.
