Description

Kennbrook and the two adjoining houses to the west form a row of three identical houses, likely built in the mid-19th century. They are colourwashed and stuccoed, featuring a slate roof with deep eaves and gabled ends. Each house has an end stack with rendered shafts, displaying an Italianate style. The plan consists of three double-depth houses, each with an entrance on the right side.

The exterior is three storeys high, with each house having a one-window front and a front door to the right, although all front doors are 20th-century replacements. The ground floor is rusticated, and the windows here are tripartite sashes, with the lights divided by pilasters and the sills supported on brackets. The central window has 12 panes, while the outer lights have 4 panes, except for the left-hand house, which has a replacement sash in the centre light.

The first floor features canted bays with roofs that have lead rolls and cornices supported by brackets. Kennbrook retains sunk mouldings on the bay. The first-floor windows consist of 12-pane sashes, with 4-pane sashes in the outer lights, except for the left-hand house, which has later replacement timber sashes. The second floor has round-headed tripartite sashes, each light adorned with a keyblock and heavy moulded architraves that spring from capitals decorated with palmettes.

The houses have deep eaves with moulded, stuccoed eaves brackets, platbands between the floors, and pilasters on either side of the range and between the houses. The interior has not been inspected but may be of interest. The row has impressive detailing and holds group value with Brunel's Italianate Pumping House located opposite and to the west.
