Description
Austin's Bridge is a road bridge over the River Dart, with part of it located in Staverton in the South Hams District. It is believed to date from the 16th or 17th century, with later rebuildings. The bridge is constructed from local grey limestone rubble and features a plan that includes four spans plus a flood arch. It has segmental arches with cutwaters and a plain parapet, where the parapet of the three left-hand spans slightly projects. Historically, the Austyn family is noted in early 16th century documents as corn millers at Kilbury.
