Description
Riverford Bridge is a road bridge over the River Dart, built in the early 19th century with later alterations in the late 19th century. It is constructed from cement washed stone rubble and features three large spans with elliptical arches made of rusticated granite voussoirs. The bridge has rusticated granite piers at the springing of the arches and cut-waters on splayed piers, which include refuges in the parapet above. There is a stringcourse at road level and the parapet has plain granite coping. The parapets at the northeast end were raised around 1872 when a railway bridge was built at that end. The bridge is also known as Hood or Emmets Bridge and was described as "comparatively modern" by Henderson and Jervoise in their work on Old Devon Bridges.
