Description

Hood Manor, now used as the Rudolf Steiner School, is a house that underwent remodelling and enlargement around 1840, transforming an earlier structure. It features rendered stone rubble and a slate roof with coped gable ends, shaped kneelers, and plastered moulded covered eaves. The gable end stacks have short rendered shafts. The building has a 3-room plan, with an entrance hall located between the center and right-hand rooms, and a staircase at the back. A short axial corridor leads from the center room to the left end room and to a room in the parallel range at the back. The services are located in a wing behind the right-hand end.

The exterior is two storeys with an attic and has an asymmetrical front with two bays on the left and one bay on the right. It features large 19th-century tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, and the ground floor windows have hoodmoulds. There is a tall two-storey and attic porch to the right of center, which has a chamfered four-centred doorway, a 12-pane first-floor sash window, and a small attic casement. The building also includes later 19th-century gable dormers. The rear elevation has a shorter parallel range and a gable-ended wing to the left, both with coved plaster eaves and sash windows.

The interior has only been partly inspected, but it includes moulded plaster services and 19th-century joinery, such as panelled doors and window shutters. The staircase is also from the later 19th century.
