Description

The Bishopsteignton War Memorial is a granite structure dedicated to the memory of those who served in the First and Second World Wars. It features a flat base topped with a tapering plinth and a Celtic-style wheel cross. The plinth has recessed panels, with the front panel inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND THE IMMORTAL MEMORY OF THE BRAVE MEN OF BISHOPSTEIGNTON WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." The two side panels list the names of the fallen, arranged by the date of their passing. In front of the base, there is a stone plaque that honors those who died in the Second World War, inscribed with: "ALSO TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1938-45," followed by the names of the deceased.
