Description

This is an early 19th-century house, which may have been remodelled from an earlier building. It is situated on a prominent corner location in Fore Street, Bishopsteignton, at the junction with Clanage Street. The house is colourwashed and rendered, with a slate roof and a chimney stack on the left end. The plan features a double-depth layout, with two rooms per floor and a stair hall accessed via a door situated to the right of centre. The two-storey, asymmetrical facade has four bays and regular window placement. A decorative verandah with a slate roof and solid end walls featuring round-headed niches, a characteristic local feature of early 19th-century houses, extends across the front. The front door is panelled with glazed upper panels, and there are three French windows with glazing bars and margin panes. The remaining windows are 19th-century casements with small panes. The listing also includes low garden walls in front of the property, featuring iron railings with spear finials, and a garden gate flanked by piers with pyramidal caps.
