Description
The Gallery is a narrow frontage house located on Church Street in Modbury, dating from the early 19th century. It features a slate-hung exterior and a slate roof, rising three storeys. On the right side, there is a two-storey canted bay that has 2:4:2 pane sash windows beneath a frieze and moulded cornice, topped with a flat roof and slate-hung spandrel panels. The second floor contains two 12-pane sash windows. To the left, a portico supported by slender Doric half columns leads to an entablature and segmental pediment, with a six-panelled door and a small overlight featuring panelled deep reveals. A small chimney stack is positioned to the right, and the house has deep box eaves. Inside, there is a stone flagged throughway, well-crafted stair stick balusters, and a mahogany handrail. A deep back wing extends to the right. The Gallery is very similar to the adjoining No 30, but it is built with higher ceiling pitches.
